1. NSFC announced the 3^rd batch of Joint Fund Guidelines with China Railway Group Corporation (CRGC) (企业创新发展联合基金项目指南)  link to the announcement 

NSFC provides key projects in the field of Railway Transportation and Clean Energy Equipment（轨道交通与清洁能源装备领域）. There are 26 research topics in this area. Please check the link to the announcement for more information. 

Award:  2.6 million RMB to each grant, 4 years.

Eligibility: 1）Proposal PI must be leading PI in relevant projects before.  2）Applicant shall have senior titles such as professorship or research scientist. 

Due date:  Please submit the proposal in the NSFC system before May 14th, 2024.

2. NSFC announced 2^nd batch of Guidelines for projects of the Joint Fund for Basic Research on Railways (铁路基础研究联合基金项目) link to announcement 

It aims to attract and mobilize scientific research resources from the whole society to carry out basic research on the major scientific problems, key technical difficulties and common problems in the fields of construction, operation and management of China’s high-speed railways, alpine railroads and heavy-duty railroads, so as to enhance China’s railroad science and technology self-reliance and self-reliance capabilities.. 3. NSFC announced the Yellow River Water Science Research Joint Fund Program (黄河水科学研究联合基金项目) link to the announcement 

NSFC together with the Ministry of Water Resources of the People’s Republic of China (MWR) and the State Power Investment Group Corporation (SPIGC), has established the Joint Fund for Yellow River Water Science Research (JFYRWSR) with the aim of exerting the guiding effect of the NSFC, attracting and mobilizing the strengths of higher education institutions and scientific research institutes across the country, focusing on guaranteeing the water security of the Yellow River Basin, and focusing on the major water science issues in the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin, in order to carry out basic The purpose of the fund is to attract and mobilize the strength of universities and scientific research institutions in China to carry out basic research, develop new research directions, and promote the enhancement of the innovation capacity of the source in the field related to national water security.

4. NSFC announced the 3^rd batch of 2024 NSFC Joint Fund for Regional Innovation Development Program Guidelines (Sichuan and Anhui)  link to the announcement 

Focusing on the urgent needs in industrial development and the core scientific problems in key technology fields, carrying out basic research, promoting the integration of the knowledge innovation system and technology innovation system, and promoting the enhancement of the independent innovation capability of Chinese enterprises. Please check the specific research topics in the announcement. 

This program supports:

1)       Biological and agricultural fields, 

1. In light of the development needs of Anhui Province in the biological and agricultural fields, carry out basic or applied basic research on key issues such as the creation of new germplasm for high temperature tolerance of soybeans, the regulatory mechanism of key genes for the initiation of stone cell development in pears, and the synthesized gene circuits of malignant tumors.
2. Based on the development needs of modern agriculture in Sichuan, carry out relevant basic or applied basic research centering on key scientific issues in germplasm resources, animal husbandry resources, food security, food processing and so on.

Applicants for the above research directions outside of Anhui and Sichuan Province should apply in cooperation with higher education institutions, research institutes or enterprises in each Province, respectively.

2)       Environment and Ecology

1. Based on the ecological protection of the upper reaches of the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers, carry out relevant basic research or applied basic research focusing on key scientific issues in ecological restoration, prevention and control of geological disasters, and resource development and utilization.

Applicants for the above research directions outside of Sichuan Province should apply in cooperation with higher education institutions, research institutes or enterprises in each Province, respectively.

3)       Energy & Chemicals

1. To face the development needs of the new energy industry in Anhui Province, to carry out relevant basic research or applied basic research on key scientific issues, such as the storage and controlled release of clean energy hydrogen, the evolution of reflective properties of the first mirror of the optical diagnostic prototype for fusion reactors, the coupling of weakly-connected and high-penetration distribution grids in the energy and communication domains, the low-carbon and high-efficiency treatment of pharmaceutical wastewater, and the antibiotic-resistant gene contamination in the Wanjiang River Basin.
2. Based on the development needs of Sichuan’s energy and chemical industry, carry out basic research or applied basic research on key scientific issues in the areas of new energy storage, comprehensive development and utilization of resources, and green fine chemical industry.

Applicants for the above research directions outside of Anhui and Sichuan Province should apply in cooperation with higher education institutions, research institutes or enterprises in each Province, respectively.

4)       New Materials and Advanced Manufacturing

1. To carry out basic or applied research on high-performance basic materials, new functional materials, super-resolution imaging and high-performance electrical systems in the light of the development needs of Anhui in the fields of new materials and advanced manufacturing.
2. Based on the development needs of advanced materials and equipment manufacturing industries in Sichuan, carry out basic research or applied basic research on key scientific issues related to polymer materials, device preparation, and unmanned aerial vehicles.

Applicants for the above research directions outside of Anhui and Sichuan Province should apply in cooperation with higher education institutions, research institutes or enterprises in each Province, respectively.

5)       Electronic information field

1. Carry out basic or applied basic research on key scientific issues related to Anhui‘s development needs and urgency in the fields of new-generation information technology, deep-space exploration, low-altitude technology, artificial intelligence, intelligent network connection and intelligent planning.
2. Based on the development needs of Sichuan’s electronic information industry, carry out basic or applied research on key scientific issues in chip design, intelligent robots, intelligent sensors, etc.
3. To carry out basic or applied research on image information processing, medical optics, and optoelectronic imaging in response to the development needs of the electronic information field in Jiangxi Province.

Applicants for the above research directions outside of Anhui and Sichuan Province should apply in cooperation with higher education institutions, research institutes or enterprises in each Province, respectively.

6)       Population and health

1. Focusing on the development needs of Anhui in the field of population health and other areas, carry out relevant basic or applied basic research on tumor microenvironment, female fertility preservation, respiratory infections pathogens, modified electroconvulsive therapy for depression, and reproductive health.
2. Based on the development needs of Sichuan‘s biomedical industry, carry out basic or applied basic research on key scientific issues related to smart medicine, endemic disease prevention and treatment, and the development and utilization of characteristic Chinese medicine resources..

Applicants for the above research directions outside of Anhui and Sichuan Province should apply in cooperation with higher education institutions, research institutes, or enterprises in each Province, respectively.

Award: 2.6 million RMB per grant, 4 years.
