Undraa Agvaanluvsan, PhD is a seasoned leader with a diverse background in government, academia, and corporate governance. She is currently the President of the Green Building Council of Mongolia, where she is leading efforts to promote sustainable development and green building practices throughout the country.
Undraa has served as a Member of Parliament of Mongolia from 2016-2020, where she chaired the Parliamentary Subcommittee on Sustainable Development Goals and the Responsible Mining Support Group. Prior to being elected to public office, she has served as the Executive Director of the Strategy Academy and as an Advisor to the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy of Mongolia. In addition, she was Ambassador-at-large for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia and Deputy Director of the Institute of Strategic Studies at the National Security Council of Mongolia.
A nuclear scientist by training with more than five dozen publications, Undraa has served as an Affiliate at the Center for International Security and Cooperation at Stanford University since 2010. Her research interests incorporate sustainable development, interdisciplinary thinking, science policy, and comparative foreign policies of countries that neighbor China and Russia. She has also held positions as Adjunct Professor of Physics at North Carolina State University, as postdoctoral research fellow at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and as Science Fellow and Visiting Professor at Stanford University.
Undraa has extensive experience in corporate governance. She currently serves as the Co-chair of the Mongolia Chapter of Women Corporate Directors (WCD), as a Member of the Advisory Board for Erdene Resources, and the Global Committee on Diversity and Inclusion for Women Corporate Directors. She has also served as a member of the Advisory Board for Rio Tinto Mongolia.
Undraa is highly impactful in her community, as the former President of the Mongolian Association of American Alumni and as Co-founder and President of the Mitchell Foundation for Arts and Sciences. She was also Board Member of the Mongol Ecology Center and a Volunteer Park Ranger at the Bogd Khan Mountain Protected Area. In addition, she has worked as Assistant Director on three documentary films and has served as a judge for the Shanghai International Literary Festival.
Undraa has received numerous awards and honors throughout her career, including the Distinguished Service in Petroleum Industry Award from the Government of Mongolia, the Asia21 Young Leader Award, the Recognition of Excellence from the US Department of Energy. She obtained her BS in Physics and MS in Physics from the National University of Mongolia, as well as a Diploma in High Energy Physics from the International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy. She holds a PhD in Physics from North Carolina State University.
