Abstract

This talk will report findings from a series of studies of rare populations of Chinese immigrants in the US and Europe recruited with novel social networks sampling methodologies during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a focus on the relationship between acculturation, perceptions of discrimination, social networks and psychological health.

Bio

M. Giovanna Merli is Professor of Public Policy, Sociology and Global Health at Duke University, where she is also the director of the Duke University Population Research Institute (DUPRI). Her research straddles demography, social networks and health primarily in the context of the population of China and the Chinese diaspora. Her methodological interests include the evaluation of innovative network-based sampling approaches to recruit samples of hidden and rare populations.
