Abstract:
The use of digital technology in public services, such as hospitals, is becoming increasingly widespread. While some experts in the digital healthcare industry argue that smart healthcare will offer patients more convenience and choices, it also presents new challenges for older people who may struggle with digital technology. This study, informed by ecological systems theory, investigates how older people perceive and use smart healthcare services in hospitals, as well as the factors that affect their usage, through in-depth interviews and participatory observation. The findings highlight the intricate relationship between digital technology and healthcare delivery, providing insight into the development of age-friendly hospitals.
