Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible for counseling?

All currently enrolled DKU students.

How much do services cost?

No fees are charged for our services.

Where is the office?

CAPS locates at the 2nd floor of Conference Center: 2081-2084.

Can faculty and staff go to CAPS?

CAPS only provides service to students. For faulty and staff, please consult with HR Office and insurance company.

Can I bring a friend or family member? What if they are not a student?

Friends can come in and talk to a therapist together. If you are an enrolled student, and your friend or family member is not, you can still meet with a therapist together.

Will my parents be notified?

If you are 18 years of age or older, your parents won’t be notified unless you sign a “Release of Information” form. If you are under 18, please ask your counselor about the changes to confidentiality.

Will my professors/department be notified?

No, unless you sign a “Release of Information” form and agree CAPS to communicate with your professors/department.

Will my sessions go on my official student record?

How do I make my Initial Consultation (first meeting at CAPS)?

For individual counseling, students will need to make reservations through Point’N’Click or email ( If students contact us via email, CPAS will try to reply within 1-2 working days. For detailed introduction of each type of service, please visit Clinical Services.

I am not able to return to campus. Is there online counseling service available?

Yes. For currently enrolled DKU students, CAPS provides online counseling service via Zoom for those students who are not able to return to camps due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Can I request a certain counselor?

If you have a particular request, (e.g. for a specific counselor or for a specific clinical issue) you can email CAPS or the specific counselor directly. Although we cannot always fulfill your request, when asked we do try to honor this request. However, the wait time for the appointment may be longer in this case.

Whom will I see?

Unless you are being accommodated for a specific request, you will be scheduled with whichever counselor has the first available appointment that matches your schedule.

How long will I have to wait for a first counseling appointment?

Usually within a week.

How long will the appointment take?

All Initial Consultation appointments and following appointments are scheduled for 45 minutes.

How many times can I see the counselor?

CAPS does not have a set number of times a student can be seen by one of our counselors. However, our treatment is based on a brief treatment model. Counselor may make referrals when needed.

What if I feel that I am not a good match or I ‘m not comfortable with my counselor?

We encourage you to share your concerns with your counselor first as counselors are open to change. However, If you still don't feel comfortable talking with that particular counselor and would like to schedule an appointment with a different counselor, we absolutely understand and you can request it by emailing us at

Do you have crisis counseling?

Yes. If you or someone you know experience a crisis and need help, please come to CPAS during Walk-in hours or dial DKU Emergency Hotline: 0512-3665-7110. The CARE team is also available to assist. What if I just need medication?

CAPS is unable to prescribe medication, but can provide psychiatric resource. Please see Referral Services for more details.
