Review: from the equator to the poles, what kind of self-protection research are the Chinese doing?

12-31-2018

On the evening of the last Friday in 2018, Chengdu embraced the heavy snow which have happened for many years, the Shandi course and lecture came back with a awesome lecture given by Dr. Li binbin -- from the equator to the poles, what kind of self-protection research are Chinese people doing? This lecture was jointly held by Duke Kunshan University and Fangsuo giant panda cultural tourism, with the intention to promote public to pay more attention to common home.

Dr. Li tells the audience a lot. For example, what is nature conservation research? How can people get involved? How can people go deeper? From the perspective of personal life to academic research, the path of nature conservation begins with the captivity of giant pandas. During her study abroad, Li successively carried out scientific investigation and research in Greece, Africa, Antarctica and the United States. Seven years later, Li reconsidered the original intention of wildlife conservation and chose to return to China to continue to focus on nature conservation research.

When it comes to the problems of giant pandas and biodiversity, Li explained, because the panda’s distribution area contains 70 percent of specific Chinese forest birds, 70 percent of specific Chinese mammals and 31 percent of specific Chinese amphibians. It means that the protection of any part of the panda's habitat, in fact, not only merely protects the panda, but also protects many other specific species. As a result, the giant panda is a very effective umbrella species.

She wants more people to engage in nature conservation and empowers workers with effective technology to protect public science. Li advocates people to attach more meaning to their travel. Besides enjoying the beauty, she also wants people to have a deeper understanding of the reality of the world. Instead of being a traveler, everyone is supposed to do change.

When Li showed photos of field research, she mentioned that most of her students were girls. For this reason, the whole hall broke into a round of encouraging applause! What is more commendable is that, in order to listen to this lecture on the spot, many audiences specially come from Shanghai, Xi 'an and other places by plane and train.

The content of nature protection arouses everyone's resonance and thinking. Staff from all walks of life and children have actively raised their own questions and discussed more possibilities together on the spot.

On this snowy day, you are very warm. In addition to your warm voice, the knowledge you spread is also very warm. Your image is very feminine, but what you do is cool and even great.
In this hurried world, there are still many people who are engaged in work that is completely out of reach in daily life, like some people are doing with a large number of data and analysis models and specialized in the field of operation. Such work is of great significance.
Mom, this is the first time I've seen a real doctor alive! I also want to be a scientist who studies animals and protects them! (this is already the 18th life ideals. What if it comes true?)”
