Speaker bio: James Deng is a member of the Global Operating Committee and senior vice president and general manager for Greater China at Becton, Dickinson & Co. He has served as chairman of the AdvaMed China Board for four consecutive terms.
Deng has 30 years of senior management experience in the health care industry. Before joining Becton, Dickinson & Co., he served successively as vice president of Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp. in the U.S., and CEO and president of Novartis in China. He also worked for Johnson & Johnson in China. Previously, he taught at the Zhejiang University Medical College and was a clinician for five years.
He has an EMBA from the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) and is a graduate of the general management program at Harvard Business School.
Deng was named “the most influential health care industry leader in China since the 60 years of establishment of the PRC” in 2009. He is also listed among the top 10 great health care industry leaders, the “outstanding alumni” of CEIBS, and most recently “the 40 health care leaders of the time in celebrating the 40-year anniversary of China’s reform and opening-up.” As a mentor for the China Healthcare Innovation Platform (CHIP), Deng also contributes his profound insights to nurture industry innovation.
Deng takes an active role as deputy chairman of the Shanghai Alumni of CEIBS and is deputy head of the Healthcare Industry Division of the China Health Economics Association.
