William A. Haseltine, founder of Human Genome Sciences Inc., chair and president of Access Health International, named one of the “25 Most Influential Global Business Executives” by Time magazine.

Speaker Bio
William A. Haseltine, Ph.D., is a scientist, businessman, author and philanthropist. He was a professor at Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Public Health from 1976 to 1993 where he was the founder and chair of two academic research departments, the Division of Biochemical Pharmacology and the Division of Human Retrovirology. He is well known for his pioneering work on cancer, HIV/AIDS, and genomics, and today for his work on Covid-19. He has authored more than 200 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and more than a dozen books, including six books on SARS-CoV-2 and the Covid-19 pandemic.

He is a pioneer in biotechnology, having founded more than a dozen biotechnology companies in fields ranging from development of cutting-edge pharmaceuticals to new materials and fuels. He is the founder of Human Genome Sciences Inc., and served as chairman and CEO of the company for 12 years. Eight pharmaceutical products from companies he founded are approved by U.S. and international regulatory agencies.

Haseltine is currently chair and president of Access Health International, a foundation active in the United States, India, China, Singapore and the Philippines (accessh.org). He is also chairman of the Haseltine Foundation for Science and the Arts.

About the Speech
1. “My lifelong fight against disease: from Polio and AIDS to Covid-19.” Haseltine will speak about his health-related experiences and achievements (before Covid-19).
2. “At the forefront of the fight against Covid-19.” He will share his recent books, experiences and insight on our fight against Covid-19.
3. “Science as a superpower.” He will share his love of science with the hope of inspiring young people to pursue a life in science and someday make their own contributions to improving human life.
4. In the end, he may share on AHI, his experiences as a leading business executive, and other topics.

This event is co-hosted by the Global Health Research Center and the Office of Development and Alumni Relations.
