Student Ambassador Council Offers Advice to Duke Kunshan Administration

December 15, Kunshan Student Ambassador Council (KSAC) representatives met with the Duke Kunshan leadership team, reporting thorough feedback from their experiences at Duke Kunshan over the past semester and presenting suggestions for the university’s future development.

KSAC members first made a video presentation that documents the positive experiences of students, faculty and staff studying, working and living on campus, acknowledging the university’s commitment and efforts to build a supportive learning and living environment. The KSAC representatives then reported results from a student survey that pointed out several areas for improvement in catering services, facility management, accommodation service, student activities and university policies. In suggesting solutions based on their feedback, they discussed with the university leadership on designing effective strategies to address these issues.

‘We have received very constructive feedback during the meeting, from organizing more student activities, to getting students more involved in the process of policy-making and university administration.’ Chancellor Liu said, ‘Duke Kunshan will review and aim to implement every piece of advice. If there’s any suggestion that cannot be taken at the moment, we will give explanations.’ Chancellor Liu made several points in encouraging student participation in in the university’s operation, providing space and equipments that will facilitate student innovation, and creating more opportunities for engaging with the society. Meanwhile, Chancellor Liu also pointed out that KSAC should expand its global footprint as Duke Kunshan will have more and more students and alumni around the world.

‘The administrators were very sincere and wanted to listen to our voice,’ said Stephen He, Chair of KSAC media subcommittee. ‘We were encouraged to stay in touch with Duke Kunshan to help the university make progress. I was very moved and I believe that Duke Kunshan University would definitely become a wonderful school in the future under their leadership.’

Kunshan Student Ambassador Council is a student-level partnership between Duke University, Wuhan University and Duke Kunshan University. KSAC aims to promote Duke Kunshan University in China and around the world, facilitating the recruitment of undergraduate students, fostering student leaders and school builders, and providing immersive experiences in transnational leadership and innovation for KSAC members.
