For Undergraduate Degree Program

With a highly integrated, interdisciplinary undergraduate curriculum that builds on the core concepts and philosophy that define 21st-century liberal arts and sciences education, Duke Kunshan University is bringing a unique model of global higher education to China. As an education innovator, Duke Kunshan University understands the importance of attracting the right students. The fall 2019 cohort will be our second group of undergraduate students – a group that will be special not only in terms of its global diversity but also in terms of its contribution to the future development and success of the overall academic program. We are focused on finding students that exhibit the key qualities on which this school is founded; namely, the ability to think critically, creatively, and globally. Our primary mission, after all, is to provide the highest quality undergraduate education and student experience, thus enabling our students from around the world to lead purposeful, productive, and meaningful lives. To attract the highest caliber students, we are offering generous scholarship and financial aid packages to ensure that top-tier candidates from around the world will get the opportunity to study with us. Many of our enrolled undergraduate students will receive scholarship and financial aid support. Scholarships are awarded for the entirety of the 4-year program, on the condition that all academic requirements are met. The highest amount awarded will provide funds to cover a full-tuition scholarship for the duration of the 4-year program.

Need-Based Financial Aid

Need-based financial aid is reserved for students with strong academic records, yet with a proven lack of financial resources to cover tuition payments. We are seeking a globally diverse cohort of students and encourage all academically qualified students to apply, irrespective of their family financial situation. Interested applicants will need to provide documentation to prove that their current financial situation is a direct barrier to affording Duke Kunshan’s tuition fees. When applying to Duke Kunshan via the Common Application website, applicants must indicate a “yes” in the financial aid interest box in order to be considered for need-based financial aid. The CSS code for Duke Kunshan University is 7059.

Merit-Based Scholarships

Duke Kunshan University offers a number of merit-based scholarships. All applicants for admission are automatically considered for all available merit scholarships. Separate applications are not required. In addition to the University’s central scholarship fund, the leadership of Duke Kunshan University is dedicated to finding new sources of scholarship funding to support undergraduate students. The Duke Kunshan entrance scholarship was created to fund first-time university students entering a full-time undergraduate degree program

The city of Kunshan will fund 10 International students and 10 Chinese students for Duke Kunshan’s second cohort of undergraduate students

This scholarship, awarded by Bond Education, will fund top students with outstanding records in leadership, service, and academics

Initiated by the inaugural Advisory Board of Duke Kunshan University in recognition of Duke’s 13th President, The Richard H. Brodhead Global Scholars will be selected from among the very best Chinese and international applicants. The scholarship fund will allow students with exceptional academic talent, demonstrated character, and leadership ability to “take the leap” with confidence, to join and help shape this young university

Established in honor of the ancient Chinese tradition of benevolence and care for others, the Ying Hui scholarship is awarded to incoming undergraduate students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and commitment to the principles of community service and social progress

The Fubon scholarship was created by Fubon Group to inspire and support students from Taiwan Province and international students to attend Duke Kunshan’s undergraduate program, regardless of family means.

Shu Ren (meaning “nurturing the talent” in Chinese) Scholarship was created to support the early growth of the undergraduate degree program at Duke Kunshan University, contributing to the Duke Kunshan vision of creating a new type of globally aware, intellectually agile, ethical leader while also helping transform Chinese higher education.

All students who are applying to the undergraduate program will be considered

The Green Future Fund was created through the generous philanthropy of Ms. Ma Lin in contributing to a sustainable future in China and beyond. The fund will provide dedicated support to outstanding undergraduate students at Duke Kunshan who have demonstrated a strong commitment to the protection of China’s environment and related sustainability causes.

Eligibility

Undergraduate students with environment-related majors

The Hong Scholarship is open to students who have declared a major in humanities and demonstrate a strong need for financial aid. The recipients are encouraged to shape their lives in a way that is rich with meaning as they examine and recognize the full range of human values and potential.

Full or partial scholarship for the undergraduate program. This scholarship covers tuition only.

 

Eligibility

Undergraduate students majoring in humanities demonstrating a strong need for financial aid

This scholarship was established by the Fang Family with the intention to help remove financial obstacles, enabling top high school graduates from greater China and other regions to choose Duke Kunshan over other prestigious institutions.

Eligibility

All students who are applying to the undergraduate program will be considered

Named after the Chinese proverb “Ning Jing Zhi Yuan” (meaning “tranquility yields transcendence” in Chinese), the scholarship is offered to students who are determined to increase their depth of knowledge and experience and to confront complicated and rapidly changing social realities.

Eligibility

All students who are applying to the undergraduate program will be considered

Initiated by Mary Bullock in 2015 upon her retirement, the scholarship is named “Chancellors’ Scholarship” in honor of Duke Kunshan’s inaugural Chancellor Liu Jingnan and inaugural Executive Vice Chancellor Mary Bullock, and their vision that Duke Kunshan University will become a leading international university. It is considered the highest honor for incoming Duke Kunshan students. The scholarship will be awarded to one international student and one Chinese student in the undergraduate program each year

Each Chancellors’ Scholarship recipient will be awarded $5,000. This award can be held concurrently with any other scholarships

Eligibility

All students who are applying to the undergraduate program will be considered

For Graduate Students

The scholarship aims to cultivate the next generation of global business leaders. All Master of Management Studies (MMS) program applicants are considered for the Blair Sheppard Leadership scholarship, with preference given to female students from developing countries.  

Amount:

Full to partial tuition for the MMS program. The scholarship covers tuition only.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must meet all admissions requirements
  • Students from developing countries are preferred
  • Students demonstrating financial need are preferred
  • Women are preferred
 

How to apply:

No application required. All MMS program applicants will be automatically considered for the scholarship.

Aiming at cultivating the next generation of global health leaders, the scholarship is available for students who are admitted to Global Health program and who demonstrate outstanding academic and leadership potentials. All Global Health program applicants are automatically considered for scholarships.

Amount:

One-year full or partial tuition and/or part of field study funds. The scholarship covers tuition and/or part of field study funds. The scholarship will be applied to tuition fees.

Eligibility:

All students who are applying to the Global Health program will be considered.

How to apply:

No application required. All Global Health program applicants are automatically considered for scholarships.

All Graduate program applicants from developing countries demonstrating financial difficulties will be considered for the scholarship, with preferences given to students from Sub-Saharan Africa.

Amount:

The scholarship will cover tuition and basic living expenses, including housing, food, and insurance. The scholarship covers students’ tuition and living expenses.

  • Tuition fees will be deducted directly
  • Housing: Accommodation fees of the Duke Kunshan student residence hall will be waived
  • Food: The university will transfer a fixed amount to the student’s dining card each month
  • Insurance: The university will purchase the insurance plan for the awarded student

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must meet all admissions requirements
  • Applicants must be from developing countries

How to apply:

No application required. All graduate program applicants from developing countries are automatically considered for the scholarship.

In honor of Liu Jingnan and Mary Bullock, Duke Kunshan University’s inaugural Chancellor and inaugural Executive Vice Chancellor, the scholarship is named “Chancellors’ Scholarship” and is the highest honor for incoming Duke Kunshan University students.

The Chancellors’ Scholarship is awarded in recognition of demonstrated academic achievement, leadership and overall potential. The scholarship will be awarded to one top incoming student in each degree program, and can be awarded in conjunction with other types of merit-based and need-based scholarships.

Amount:

The scholarship is $5,000 and can be awarded in addition to other types of merit-based and need-based scholarships. The scholarship covers tuition fees only.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants to any degree program
  • One top incoming student in each degree program

How to apply:

No application required. All degree program applicants are automatically considered for the scholarship.

The scholarship aims at cultivating the next generation of global environment leaders. The scholarship is available for students who are admitted to the international Master of Environmental Policy (iMEP) program, both from China and internationally.

Amount:

Two-year full or partial tuition for the iMEP Program. The scholarship covers tuition fees only.

Eligibility:

All students who are applying to iMEP program will be considered.

How to apply:

No application required. All iMEP program applicants are automatically considered for the scholarship.

The Jiangsu Provincial Government has set up the “Jasmine Jiangsu Government Scholarship” for international students. At Duke Kunshan University, this scholarship will be provided to those excellent international graduate students.

Amount:

A one-off 30,000RMB partial scholarship

Eligibility:

  • International applicants only
  • Applicants to any graduate degree program

How to apply:

Eligible applicants will be notified by Duke Kunshan University and will be given instructions to apply for this scholarship directly via the ‘Study in Jiangsu’ website. 

Duke Kunshan University seeks a high caliber yet diverse cohort of students, and thus makes available both need-based financial aid and merit-based scholarships to assist with the cost of tuition. Qualified students are encouraged to apply based on the understanding that the university will endeavor to assist students with demonstrated financial needs. Over 80 percent of international students received scholarships or financial aid last year.

Applicants will be notified of a merit-based scholarship or need-based financial aid award at the time of their admissions offer.

Tuition and fees are due before the start of each semester. Students can pay via wire transfer or online bankcard debits in the currency in which they are invoiced. A Duke Kunshan University payment plan is available for international students to allow for tuition, fees and residence charges to be paid in four installments per year (two installments per semester). Duke Kunshan University seeks a high caliber yet diverse cohort of students, and thus makes available both need-based financial aid and merit-based scholarships in to assist with the cost of tuition. The university has a substantial pool of funding dedicated to supporting students with need. We encourage all qualified candidates with financial need to apply to Duke Kunshan University.

Admission decisions are based on the overall assessment of all application materials. However, in order to best support the financial needs of all students who ultimately enroll, Duke Kunshan has a need-aware admissions process that may place some consideration on an applicant’s level of financial need in relation to available space and funds. 

At Duke Kunshan, all applicants will automatically be considered for merit-based scholarships. Need-based financial aid is also available. Students are responsible for covering their living expenses such as room, board and transportation, which are relatively lower compared with typical U.S. universities.
