Camputer Laboratory

Duke Kunshan University Camputer Laboratory is a computational imaging research center focusing on the development of parallel super cameras for applications in public security, new media, consumer electronics and transportation. The laboratory supports undergraduate course work and laboratory experiences in applied science and computation.

The Camputer Lab is a joint venture with the Kunshan Industrial Technology Research Institute and is located in the Industrial Technology Research Institute building adjacent to the Duke Kunshan University campus. The laboratory is a hub for computational imaging research with academic and industrial users from Tsinghua University, Nanjing University, Zhejiang University, Southern University of Science and Technology and Duke University, as well as numerous corporate partners.

In contrast with traditional cameras consisting of a lens and a sensor, the Camputer Lab re-imagines cameras based on powerful parallel computers integrated into the camera body. Core research challenges focus on lens and computer processor granularity and functions, robotic control, stabilization and focusing issues as well as video analysis and machine learning.

The Camputer Laboratory is closely related to the Duke Imaging and Spectroscopy Program ( at Duke University, as well as the Applied Science and Engineering Program at Duke Kunshan University.
