The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) serves as the ethical voice for the humane use of experimental animals for research and educational purposes. It is dedicated to ensuring the welfare and ethical treatment of animals used in research and education within Duke Kunshan University.

In this webpage, you will find comprehensive information about the IACUC’s mission, guidelines, and procedures. Despite your role at DKU, we welcome you to explore these pages and find out how DKU is ensuring the highest standards of care for our animal subjects that participate in our scientific experiments. To make the process more comprehensive for the perspective applicants, we have generated a IACUC procedure timeline chart:

The survey and the formal IACUC application forms can be found here (You will need NetID login to download, reload the page after that):

Internal IACUC Policy Update: External Facility Recognition

The DKU IACUC has adopted an internal policy for approving the use of external research facilities by DKU investigators conducting animal research. This policy is intended to guide DKU investigators in cases where animal research is performed at facilities not directly managed by DKU.

Faculty members who plan to conduct research at non-DKU institutions must request formal recognition of the external facility by the DKU IACUC prior to conducting research, unless the non-DKU institution appears on the pre-approved list.

The following internal documents are now available:

  • External Facility Recognition Policy
Describes the criteria and approval process for recognizing oversight provided by external institutions.
  • External Institution Compliance Checklist
A supporting document required for evaluating external facilities that are not yet recognized by the DKU IACUC.

For research projects that began prior to the formation of the DKU IACUC, investigators should notify the IACUC. In such cases, the DKU IACUC may issue a Statement of Acknowledgment confirming that the project was not reviewed under DKU oversight and is not subject to retrospective evaluation. This process is for documentation purposes only and does not constitute approval or recognition.

These materials are part of the internal operating procedures of the DKU IACUC and should be used in preparation for protocol review involving external sites.
